Starter is the whole Feldar workspace for free: chapters with a scene plan, a Canvas for your characters and places, and the editor. Writing and planning never use credits. The 500 credits are for AI features, such as generating scenes, continuing a paragraph in blue or reworking a passage, so they go furthest if you write and use AI to help, not to draft everything.

The free Paper tier gives 50 text generations once you verify an email, enough for an afternoon of writing back and forth with the AI. Paid tiers make generation unlimited, and stories are encrypted end to end.

Best free option for a long story in a clean editor

Type's free credits never expire, and documents can run to 150,000 words. It is a writing editor with AI help rather than a story generator. Type says it does not train AI models on your data.

Making a free allowance go further

  • Brief once, well. A specific prompt with a character, a place and a turn gets a usable story on the first try instead of the fifth.
  • Write the bones yourself. Draft the story roughly and use AI to fix the weak paragraphs. It costs far less than generating everything.
  • Keep the parts you like. Copy good paragraphs out as you go rather than regenerating the whole story for one line.
  • Use the right tool for each step. Free chatbots for ideas, a writing app for the draft you want to keep.

Can I keep and publish a story from a free AI story writer?
